Goggles

Jake von Slatt — Mon, 10/20/2008 - 14:04

I don't wear goggles for dress up, I wear them to protect my eyes from fire and metal shrapnel.

I also wear eyeglasses so am subject to 3liza's Rule.

But holy crap! you gotta respect these fancy dress goggles from a fellow who goes by the moniker "Anticz."

Check them out here.

I am also restricted by the need for spectacles and wearing them at the same time can be impractacle, so my only hope is to either get work goggles big enough to fit my glasses or to get goggles with an inner layer of perscription lenses with protective coverings over them...

These are my Favourites

I love these goggles, and the photos he took of them too, however they are a little over-budget for most Steampunkers being made from titanium :P

I've made my own goggles for the cost of $15 using an old pair of Brass Halcyon goggles bought of eBay, but they are not quite as pretty as these ones

A PSA

I created a little public service announcement about 3liza's rule, thought you might like to see it.

I did it for the competition for that steampunk PC over at destructoid.com, which is producing quite a bit of nice steampunk creativity.

Nice I don't dig 3liza's rule

Nice

I don't dig 3liza's rule though. I mean, there are levels of protection, in eyewear. Some of the strongest, perhaps, would be the ballistic eyewear ... for those of us who are so fortunate as to be manning the ballista across the lands home and abroad.

If I was working in a chemist's laboratory instead of manning a hearty steam-and-cog driven breaching device, then, I would certainly want to wear chemical goggles over my normal spectacles.

Neither might I wear, on my eyes, my driving goggles, when I'm not driving, nor my frailer walkabout spectacles when I'm on the road, but I sure as well may carry them both on my person, if the convenience befits it.

if someone wants to get opinionated about an idea of fashion, though, who am I but to nod and move on ...

Those goggles really are pretty keen, though.
