Steampunk Robot Ophthalmometer Computer Workstation

Description

Just what the Steampunk Doctor ordered! A sculptural 'Steampunked' original Ophthalmometer, Dental Mannequin Head and Hammond Multiplex Typewriter – totally restored, transformed and fused into a modern computer workstation!

Materials and Modifications

Our restoration includes all original devices:  1) F.A. Hardey & Company’s C.I. Ophthalmometer, patented on August 22, 1899 and based in Chicago IL.  An Ophthalmometer or Keratometer is used to measure the curvature of the eye’s cornea to quantitatively examine corneal irregularities and astigmatism. 2)  1930s life-size polished aluminum Dental Phantom Mannequin Head used as a teaching device by dental school students. Teeth are specifically made for the teaching head and can be ‘traded out’ for other practice teeth sets. 3) An 1800s Hammond Multiplex Typewriter.  Also included is an 1800s foot pedal driven dental drill and a cast iron base drawing table with a pull out drawer on an adjustable arm. On top of the monitor is an 1800s Victorian doll eye.

Technology

Custom wood frame around a Dell 15” color monitor. Computer is a Mac mini, the world’s most energy-efficient desktop computer, along with Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple’s new Magic Mouse.  Webcam is a LifeCam Cinema.

Dimensions

From front: 21” W, 44” L, 60” H

The tabletop can also be angled up and down with a knob adjustment in the front.
