Yaris with 187K on it needed axles and 3 ABS sensors. With careful sourcing of after market parts I did the job for $150. Local garage would have charged about $1500 and the dealer $2600.

The fire pit is quite deep, so made some cuts with a hole saw and grinder for better access.

Done with the bottom, just need to add legs! The idea behind the aluminum tube is that bypass air that doesn’t go to the coal is blown through the body, keeping it cool.

This is a section from my parents old furnace, you’re looking at the”front” where the oil burner used to mount. It’s going to be my forge. You’re looking at the bottom of the forge and the piece I cast this morning, the clinker-breaker, is inside that tube.

Success! The “parting line” turned out to just be cosmetic. This is the clinker-breaker for my forge. If the aluminum doesn’t hold up I’ll recast in iron, but the foundry need some work before I try an iron pour.
