Discovery's new show- Weaponizers

Meredith Scheff — Wed, 05/06/2009 - 03:31

Jake and I are having a bit of a discussion on the Discovery Channel's latest ploy to appeal to our nerdly senses. The show is called Weaponizers-in short, teams outfit vehicles with radio controls, fill them to the brim with gigantic (yes, real) guns, and then blast the living snot out of each other.

Jake says he won't like it unless they focus on the mechanical aspects. I say I'll like it as long as they focus on blasting the living snot out of each other.

I'll also like it because my friend Cowboy is in it. He's a pretty bad-ass Texan (aren't they all?) who I fondly remember as being the guy who finally got me into a proximity suit and within spittin' distance to this fire.

The living snot.

Was it just me or did the

TheGeek — Wed, 05/13/2009 - 00:56

Was it just me or did the battle feel staged. I'm not saying it was but whenever a weapon was being fired the other machine never tried to get out of the way.

It's just that experience has

Jake von Slatt — Wed, 05/06/2009 - 09:58

It's just that experience has taught me that all I can expect from cable TV producers is formulaic episodes, false drama, and explosions.

So, instead of:

"Joe is upset because the vendor only shipped seven of the 8 whatsits he needs to complete the build. The the project must be finished by tomorrow otherwise the team is dead in the water."

I want to hear:

"We chose 4130 Cro-molly steel for this so it could be gas welded in the field. This alloy was invented early in the 20th century for use in aircraft fabrication to be gas welded as effective electric arc welding had yet to be developed."

See the difference? Can you do that for me Discovery?
