I’m Jake von Slatt, a maker, tinkerer, fabricator, and all around techno dilettante living and creating just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. I’m interested in the blending of 19th century aesthetics and technology with the modern world and showcasing projects of that ilk here on SteampunkWorkshop.com. While I eschew the temptation to rigidly define the term “Steampunk,” I do know that it has something to do with the intersection of technology and romance.
I have been surprised and immensely gratified by the interest of people and the press in my hobbies. One of the more common requests I get is for hi-resolution images for print publications. Below you’ll find a selection of hi-res images suitable for print and web publication. You are also welcome to use any other images you find on this site (in posts authored by me that lack any other attribution) under the Creative Common, Attribution, Share-alike, Non-commercial license.
Some of what you see here are pictures of my school bus camper conversion project, details of which can be seen on another of my websites: www.vonslatt.com If you’re interested in what I’m like on camera here’s a couple of my TV appearances:

Herr Von Slatt, I’m a physics teacher based in Mallorca (Spain). Today I have finished and tested my own Wimhurst machine. It’s mainly inspired in your design. I’ve learned a lot from your web.
Thank you
Prof. Atomo

Steampunk Leadville, June 6th, 2015
Step back in time to discover how this rugged area was tamed with a scenic train ride on the Leadville Colorado & Southern and a tour through the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum. Leadville’s history was shaped by the Victorian era, heavy mining and railroading activity, and has ties to the Wild West as well. Seventy square blocks have been designated a National Historic Landmark of Victorian Architecture, featuring more than fifty nineteenth-century buildings and numerous “painted ladies”. On top of that, The National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum is the epitome of the past and the future and is located in the old high school which was originally steam heated. There is no better place or venue to get “steamed”!
This is a progressive event starting with the train ride, moving to a downtown mosey and ending at the museum where you can imbibe in libations and food, compete for the best dressed, and be electrified by Dr. Zapper and his Tesla Coil!
Check our website, http://www.mininghalloffame.org, frequently for updates on activities and ticket prices! Advance tickets are required to secure a spot on the train.
Hi Jake,
I was wondering if you or someone you know might be able to reproduce the brass frame for me that you used for your steampunk keyboard.
I have a model M keyboard and would like to duplicate your version.
Unfortunately I don’t have your metal-work skills, and I don’t want to build it using wood.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Steve
P.S. I created a perfect key stem using a Dremel tool, and had it scanned in 3D. I am currently cleaning up the STL file, and will soon print a set of perfect key stems. How about that!
Dear Mr.Slatt,
my name is Chloe Mellen and I am a jewellery designer based in the UK. I am looking to work in steam punk jewellery and accessories in the USA (even if for a short while only), but I am a bit stuck on where to go to look and find places to apply for. Seen as you have such an all encompassing website about steam punk I was wondering if you could advise a direction, or know any relevant companies I could contact?
Thank you.
Chloe
I’m afraid I really have no idea! The folks that I know doing steampunk jewelry all do it online through Etsy and eBay. Sorry!
Flaming Lotus Girls IN THE RED Art Party, Dec. 12, 2014
The Flaming Lotus Girls invite you to come party with us on Friday, Dec 12 at SOMArts! Designing, building and maintaining art aint cheap, but fortunately the best way to fund it is by throwing huge awesome parties. Were you at our last SOMArts fundraiser? It was a phenomenal success, and we didn’t stop moving til the wee hours.
Come mingle and sip and look at some art and shake it to members of the Bay’s best DJ crews. $20 recommended donation at the door.
